Tram 14 restoration
28 May 2024
Tram 14 has undergone a major restoration over the last 12 months. This has included a new floor, rewiring, motor and bearings rebuild, brakes, and wheel reprofiling. We hope to have it back on the tracks in July.
This tram was one of the few trams built in Sydney for the Prahran and Malvern Tramway Trust in 1915. Most of the Trust’s trams were made in South Australia by Duncan and Fraser. The tram was sold to the Geelong Tramway in 1927, and transferred to Ballarat in 1936. It was given to the City of Ballarat in 1971 and is on loan to the Museum.
This is the first major overhaul to the tram since 1970.
