Saturday 19 September 2026 marks the 55th anniversary of the closure of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria’s Ballarat tramway system. Come along and celebrate with us this event. The final tram run will occur at 9 pm from St Aidans Drive.

Tram No. 14
The tram body was built in 1915 by the Meadowbank Manufacturing Co. for the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust. It ran as number 75 and retained this number when classed "J" by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board in 1920. Sold to the Melbourne Electric Supply Co. Ltd. in 1927 and ran as Geelong number 29. Transferred by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SEC) to Ballarat in 1936 where it became number 14. This car was the last car to be overhauled by the SEC. The tramcar is the property of the Ballarat City Council and on loan to the Museum.
Tram No. 33
Built in 1917 by Duncan and Fraser for the Footscray Tramways Trust, but delivered to the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board who had taken over the Trust. The car was classed "M" 189 by the Board. Purchased by the SEC in 1935. In 1971 this car was acquired by the Hamilton Pastoral Museum and held by them until procured by the Society in 1977.
Tram No. 40
Built in 1913 by Duncan and Fraser for the Prahran and Malvern tramways Trust. Entered service on 7 June 1913 as their number 35. Retained this number when classed "C" by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board. Sold to the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SEC) and renumbered 40 in 1951. This tram was the last Ballarat tram operted by the SEC to officially carry passengers in Ballarat on 19 September 1971.
