The Metropolitan Tramways Trust operated a large network in Adelaide, South Australia. After 1958 the system was reduced to one line from the central city to Glenelg. Since 2007, that line has been re-extended through the city several times and equipped with modern low floor trams.
The cap numbers always represented at which depot crew was based and what role they had. When the system was reduced to one line, the 1800 block was designated for the trams. The numbers 1800 to 1849 were for motormen (the correct term for a tram driver) and numbers 1850 to 1899 for conductors. The cap badge displayed on this cap was kindly donated by Mr Kym Smith of the Adelaide Tramway Museum.
The famous H class trams were designed for the Glenelg line but also operated on other lines until 1958. These trams were operated coupled together in the peak hours and were capable of speeds of up to 90 kph
