The Philadelphia Transport Company (PTC) was a private company formed in 1940. It merged several small independent transport operators with the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company (1902). The PTC was taken over by the City in 1968. The cap on display was worn by motormen of the PTC. Philadelphia operated a large fleet of PCC cars into the late 1980s.
The new operation is called South Eastern Pennsylvania Transit Agency or SEPTA. They still operate seven streetcar and suburban lines with modern cars.
