The Museum operates our trams in Wendouree Parade beside Lake Wendouree in the Ballarat Botanic Gardens every Saturday, Sunday, Public Holiday. Tram run in Wendouree Parade between 11.30am and 4pm.
Our heritage tram service maybe suspended during periods of heavy rain, strong winds, lightning or when the temperature exceeds 35 degrees.
|Our tram depot, at the south end of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, houses the tramcar collection, a museum display with photographs, videos, tramway memorabilia, trammie stories, souvenirs and book shop. The depot is open for visitors from about 11am on operating days (depending on volunteer staff availability); Tuesdays from 10 am. It is also open most afternoons from about 4pm. A self-guided tour is possible or, when volunteers are available for a formal guided tour. A gold coin donation would be appreciated to enable our work to continue. The Tramcar fleet, including Horse Tram No. 1 and our workshops can be viewed by visitors. An inspection can be arranged when our volunteers are available or by prior arrangement – see contact details.
Catch a tram from any of the tram stops indicated by the yellow signs beside the poles with red and white markings. They are at several locations along the line. Car parking is available along the length of Wendouree Parade. Toilets are also available at two locations within the Gardens area.
Fares: Adult $5, Children $2.
Also (Hop-on /Hop-off) ticket: Adult $8, Children $4.
Tickets can be purchased on the tram or at the depot. EFTPOS Facilities are available at the depot; no cash out.
The vintage tram ride covers 1.3km of original line through the beautiful Botanical Gardens by the western side of tranquil Lake Wendouree and a return journey takes about 20 minutes.
Group / School Visits:
The Museum welcomes visits by clubs, schools and other groups. It can usually accommodate them at any time. The visit includes a tram ride and an optional tour of the Museum.
For groups picnicking in the gardens prepaid tickets to ride on the tram are available in advance.
The cost of a group visit varies depending on the number of people travelling.
