Tramway Museum Project

The aim of this project is to construct a new Tramway Museum and upgrade the immediate surrounds including a carpark on the Gillies St side and the pathway connections to the Botanic Gardens.

On the ground floor the new facility will have the following :

  • a large tramcar display area with inset tram tracks to enable new tramcars to be positioned inside the building and removed when required,
  • an entry airlock and link corridor between the existing and new building for all weather access
  • an entry area with a kiosk and ticket sales point, integrated with a tram body, and a display area for BTM merchandise
  • a large exhibition and function space
  • two kitchens, staff and visitor amenities and storage space with shelving.

On the first floor there is a staff room, toilet, file/archives storage room, general storage space, an office, a kitchenette and a large meeting room overlooking Lake Wendouree.

The Ballarat based firm of MKM Constructions were the successful tenderer for the Design and Construction of the Project.
